What Is CHOMP?

CHOMP is the product of a 20 year collaboration between the internal medicine residency program and the Pritzker school of medicine. In that time, numerous grand rounds, morning reports, bedside teaching and table rounds, the history of medicine has been part of the education experience for students, residents, clinicians and other health care professional all while we treat and navigate the complexities of the health care system. CHOMP has been a place to challenge comfortable traditional understandings of what we do as physicians daily.

CHOMP mixes historical thought, clinical thinking with an appreciation of the peculiarities of our context in Chicago. I hope that this serves as a home base of those interested in accessing resources useful in the learning and teaching of medical history.

What Are We Chomping on?

CHOMP is a project- it is fundamentally a collaborative and not the project of one single person.

Clio Project

From the time of the ancient greeks, Clio is the muse of history.
The Clio project is an informal collaboration between members of the AAHM that began in 2013. The group is committed to learning and teaching medical history - especially in academic health centers.
